Delectable Travels

Yum Cha
Hand tinted Cyanotype Illustration from H is for Hong Kong, 2008

While some of the most interesting people I know are eating their way around the world, I’ve never given food much airtime here. Yet one of the most immediate pleasures – and pains – of travel are the many foods we encounter along the way.

Here’s a selection of my favorite food photos from the past few years:

From soft durian and coconut icecream in Laos

Taro, Coconut and Durian Icecream, Phonsavanh Laos

to a bucket full of sea urchin spines in Korea

Busan: Sea Urchins

or the starfish from a medicine shop at a Cambodian market

dried starfish, Siem Reap market

There are many ways to stay healthy.

From the Persian bakery near our flat in Sydney

Parra Breads

to sticky rice in the jungle in Laos,

Sticky rice in banana leaf, Bokeo Laos

Each offers a new experience.

Frogs in Luang Prabang,
Frogs, luang prabang market

the coffee flowers of northern Thailand,
Coffee Flowers, Thailand

and lunch on my studio rooftop in Bangkok

Rooftop Lunch, Bangkok

are the freshest ingredients you’ll find anywhere.

You can see more photos I’ve posted here on Flickr

Yum, I need one of those Persian ovens!

Mmmmm! Dragon fruit!!!! The nearby farmers’ market has those, here in South Miami (aka Homestead), Florida. YUMMMY!

PS: I agree with you – even a walk down the block with my guy is like a mini-vacation. We look forward to adventures together, but understand the need for adventures apart.

    Enjoying your blog,

Fruit is just the perfect complement to a steamy afternoon. The right ones cool you down and offer a variety of texture and flavors. But as you know artists like their feasts to be colorful!

The fruits in the last photo look delicious… I wonder what is the purple fruit called?
